Day 3: The weekend is hard

I can definitely see weekends as being an obstacle for me in the future.  It’s a lot easier to be diligent when there is structure to the day.  Saturday and Sunday are usually pretty layed back days for me with more downtime than normal.  More downtime generally leads to poor eating choices because when I’m not busy I’m snacking.  That being said I woke up this morning and hit the exercise bike just like I should.  I rode the bike for a little over twenty minutes.  I ended up riding above five miles according to the exercise bike’s onboard computer.  Five miles seemed like a pretty big accomplishment and although I definitely felt the burn of the workout, my muscles were not anywhere near as sore as they were after riding the bike yesterday.  That kind of progress over three days feels pretty good.  I plan to push myself a little more every day.  I just envision a bratwurst at the end of a rope and I generally find the energy to finish my workout strong.

I also did my official weigh-in today considering I officially start my diet and exercise plan on Monday.  387.2 pounds is what I weigh according to the HealthOMeter which claims accuracy up to 400 pounds.  Being a skeptic I weighed myself three times and the results were exactly the same for all three.  I now know for certain that I am a mere 157.2 pounds from my official fighting weight.  I know that initially the pounds are going to be falling off of me.  That will really help me get motivated and will help me to keep going.

My trainer gave me a list that breaks foods into proteins, carbohydrates, or fats.  As I reviewed the list I realized that we had basically zero of the items on the list in our house.  I looked behind the Oreos to see if we had any Wasabi Paste, but no such luck.  My wife and I put together a shopping list and prepped for a trip to Costco for our proteins and the farmer’s market for fresh produce.  We really stocked up on the good food and ended up spending like 300 bucks on groceries.  That grocery bill was pretty steep for us, but considering the amount of fast food we won’t be eating, I’m sure it will at least even itself out if not save us money.  I’ve told people many times that I know exactly why Americans are so fat.  If I can buy a box of Twinkies for $1.99 or a bag of oranges for $6.00, I’m taking the Twinkies.  Hell, I’ll buy some chocolate to dip them in for another dollar.  I’m spending half as much and enjoying it much much more.  OK…I’d better stop the Twinkie talk before I give myself a midnight craving.  Tomorrow I follow my normal eating routine for the last time.  I’ll make sure I let you know tomorrow how my last day as a real man turns out.

Congrats to you for losing over 100 pounds in a year! I don’t know who your personal trainer was but I’ve never owned a tube of wasabi paste in my life…
