I ran a 5K on Saturday. This time last year I wasn’t able to climb a flight of stairs without becoming exhausted.
I’ll give you a race report tomorrow but today I want you to ask yourself one question.
Why do you do what you do?
What is your purpose for trying to lose weight, or become an athlete, or be better at your job?
Here’s mine:
Every time your workouts get hard, or those cupcakes looks extraordinarily delicious, remember your purpose and you’ll find the willpower to be a success.
Now for some of my post race excitement courtesy of YouTube:
Please remember to go back to this post and tell me how you would use FREE CASH to jumpstart your weight loss journey. I will leave comments open on that post through the end of this week. Winners will be announced the end of the next week.

You are so totally awesome. I love it.
Plus, 34 minutes makes me totally jealous. I can’t even do that on a treadmill yet. I’ll get there though.
Way to slay dragons, conquer monsters and leave the bacon at the store!

I had never run it that fast on a treadmill either. Who knows what came over me?
That’s so awesome. I’m going to make a vblog after my 5K too. What’s my purpose? To live so I can have children and accomplish my long list of life goals.
Keep it up! Next time, you’ll be doing a 10K!

Well thanks for making me all teary-eyed this morning! I do it for my daughter. I do it so that she will grow up healthy and happy, and I will live to see every possible minute of her beautiful life. I do it so that she won’t struggle with weight and body image issues like I did.

Congrats Ryan! Awesome job! But what an important message! Finding the purpose for wanting a healthy lifestyle. That is a lot of food for thought for me! Finding and discovering the real reasons why I want to do this and putting a heart felt purpose behind it……Thank you for sharing!

It seems like so many of us get frustrated when the scale doesn’t move or when we cave to a craving. When we really ask ourselves WHY we want to get healthy, we may not even know why. Finding that why will make us so much more successful.
Go Ryan! See… running IS awesome!!!
I don’t remember ever saying that Cass
I love that you did this and made it not only about yourselves (which IS important) but also for a greater cause! I very much hope that I am able to run again some day because it really is empowering!
Congrats!!!

Thanks Karen, you’re the greatest! I really hope you can run again too! Really I do!
I run for the same reason. My little Collin. He does hard things every day. Every day is fight for him. So I can fight to be here for him. Him, Ryan, and my little Brady. Brady, Brady, my reason to smile.
Thanks for running Ry, you amaze me. Love you always!
Love you too babe!
Long ago I vlogged about a binge, and in that conversation I talked about all these people around me who were fighting hard to live in bodies that were failing them, and here I had this perfectly healthy body that I was choosing to just abuse. Seems I was forever making deals with myself – If my dad makes it through this, I SWEAR I will get healthy myself – stuff like that. Sometimes I still do it, even though the last year has really been about doing it instead of making the deals.
Anyway. I am so proud of you and I enjoyed each and every one of the pictures you posted on FB. You are such an inspiration to me.

I do it because my wife deserves way better. She’s way too hot for me. I really like her and I want to keep her around, but she’s so frickin hot and I just haven’t figured out why she hasn’t bolted yet.
Oh, and I want a lower handicap to play Wentworth later on this summer.
You totally continue to inspire me. Thanks for the enthusiasm. We spoke a few months ago about how much you love to run and yet, you still turned out such a killer time. Way to go!
Those boys are lucky to have such an awesome dad!
Ryan,
Great blog! I’m trying the “male weight loss blog” thing, too. Have a ways to go to catch you. Keep up the great work!
